In the Beginning!
Genesis 1: 1 When God began creating the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the Spirit of God brooding over the dark vapors. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light." And light appeared. (TLB)
The first person we meet in the Bible is Mighty Holy Spirit. We find that the Holy Spirit is brooding over the shapeless, chaotic mass that the earth was in verse 2. Brood means to hover over, to overshadow, to express great care over.
Therefore the first time we observe the Holy Spirit in action, He is expressing great care over the earth, which was in terrible condition at this time.
It was only after the Mighty Holy Spirit had expressed this great care over the earth, that the process of creation was able to move forward to completion. As a matter of fact, after this expression of great care, God was able to make the earth so beautiful and functional, that He was very pleased with what He had created.
This is a picture of how the Lord works in our human life. When He looks at us, many times our life looks like the earth looked in the beginning: a shapeless, chaotic mass. Then the Mighty Holy Spirit comes and broods over us until we open up to the Lord Jesus Christ. When we do this the Lord is able to begin creating something really beautiful out of us, that makes our life purposeful and brings Him great glory.
Prayer: Lord Holy Spirit, brood over my life today, so that I begin to understand how much You love me. Then help me to respond to Your great love in a way that makes my life purposeful and brings You great glory, in Jesus' name Amen. |
